The Cedars Neighborhood

The Cedars is a neighborhood comprised of approximately 200 acres, connected by five bridges to Downtown Dallas. The Cedars emerged in the 1850’s as one of Dallas’s first and most affluent suburb. It was based on the European concept of living close to your work, and it was an eclectic mix of elegant Queen Ann houses upon cedar-lined streets, built within walking distance of textile mills, garment makers and candy factories. The area was abandoned for decay and destruction in the 1970’s.

Today, The Cedars is home approximately 3,000 residents, including a significant number of professionals and artists. The Cedars contains one of Dallas’s light rail stations, serving the area’s 21st Century mass transit system. The area is home to an eclectic mix of residential lofts, businesses, and artists’ studios, becoming increasingly important and integral to the success of Downtown Dallas. The Cedars is evolving into Dallas’s newest artist district, featuring some of Texas’ most renowned artists specializing in photography, glass, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, paintings, graphic arts and multi-media.
